Matcha Meet Clay: Rare Matcha Tasting & Kurinuki Cup Carving

A slow, hands-on morning of clay and matcha.

This special edition workshop brings together the art of Kurinuki, a traditional Japanese hand-carving ceramic technique, and a guided tasting of rare, high-grade matcha.

Through clay and tea, we explore the beauty of slow craft, texture and quiet ritual.

Capacity is limited to 12 guests to keep the experience intimate.

The Matcha Ritual: Rare Tea Tasting (50 min)

The tea experience is led by brut tea, a London-based independent matcha and tea brand.

You’ll be welcomed with a cup of premium Gyokuro, a shaded Japanese green tea known for its depth and umami, before being guided through a tasting of three rare matcha varieties.

This session explores matcha in its traditional usucha style (prepared simply with water, without milk or sugar), allowing you to experience its texture, aroma and complexity in its pure form.

No prior matcha knowledge is needed.

The Pottery Experience: Kurinuki Tea Cup (60 min)

Immerse yourself in the refined world of Kurinuki, a centuries-old Japanese hand-building technique. Carved from a single block of clay, each tea cup embodies the subtle beauty of wabi-sabi, where imperfection and simplicity are celebrated.

You will receive personalised and step-by-step guidance to create a piece that is uniquely yours.

This workshop is beginner-friendly. No prior experience is needed.

Your Finished Piece:
After the workshop, your tea cup will be professionally glazed and kiln-fired twice to ensure it’s food-safe and ready for tea rituals at home. It usually takes about 5 weeks before it's ready.
