"Shin" Purple Bamboo Chasen — Handcrafted Matcha Whisk
Product description
The Art of the Whisk
The Shin is not just a matcha whisk — it's a hand-forged instrument shaped by centuries of craftsmanship.
Carved from rare purple bamboo (zizhu), the Shin chasen develops a rich, dark patina that deepens with every use. Its 80 precision-split tines fan out to break up matcha powder with exceptional efficiency, producing a silky, lump-free bowl with a thick, even froth that flat whisks and machine frothers simply can't replicate.
What sets the Shin apart:
- Rare purple bamboo: denser and more durable than standard white bamboo, it holds its shape longer and resists splaying
- 80 tines: more contact points mean faster, more thorough whisking with less effort
- Black thread binding: hand-wound at the base for structural integrity and a refined, traditional finish
- Engraved squirrel handle: brut tea's signature mark, laser-engraved on the lacquered bamboo handle
Protective storage canister included — keeps the tines perfectly shaped between uses; doubles as a display piece
Whether you're preparing usucha (thin matcha) or koicha (thick matcha), the Shin performs with the precision and luxurious feel of a professional-grade chasen. It's equally at home as part of a full matcha whisk set or as a standalone upgrade to your morning ritual.
